June 1948 – Fidel Castro Ruz was 22 years old. He was

was 40 years old. He made numerous trips to Cuba in the next 18 months. The

1960 – Returning from a temporary assignment in Cuba,
Nosenko went to Amsterdam for three days, Nosenko was carrying a package of top
secret papers which the KGB had collected from Fidel Castro. Nosenko was
delivering these papers to Che Guevara who was touring Europe. They contained
copies of personal correspondence between Khrushchev and Castro about future Soviet
military plans for Cuba.

Feb Sept 1960 – Russia sent a KGB rep to Havana in Feb 1960,

Antuilo Ramierez Ortiz forced at gunpoint a national airlines plane to fly to
Havana Cuba where he was given asylum
Nov 1961 – A special secret group was established to deal
with Cuba, under the code name Mongoose. 400 Americans and 200 Cubans were
given a fleet of speedboats and $50 million annual budget to undermine Castro’s
regime.
Nov 1961 – Two senior GRU officers left for Cuba, Colonel
Meshcheryakov and lieutenant colonel N K Khlebnikov. In Cuba they worked as
intel consultants in the Castro regime, against the US and Latin American

1962 – During the Cuban missile crisis, Penkovsky’s spy info
was sent immediately to president Kennedy, allowing the white house to monitor
the progress of Soviet missile emplacements hour by hour, and to establish
which US cities were threatened.

June – Nov 1962 – In June 1962 four U2 overflights showed
that the Soviets were building anti aircraft missile emplacements on Cuba. By
29 Aug 1962 Soviet bombers and high performance fighters were identified on new
Cuban airbases. In Moscow colonel Oleg Penkovsky 14 Oct 1962 the USAF and CIA
air photographs identified Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba. By 19 Oct 1962 the US had declared a
military alert and by 22 Oct 1962 the American military was oh war footing. By
20 Nov 1962 Soviet ships turned back and the Russians began removing their

July – Sept 1962 – By late July 1962 the CIA knew of 65
Soviet ships heading for Cuba, ten of them known to be carrying military
equipment. The new CIA Director John McCone, who had replaced Allen Dulles
after the Bay of Pigs disaster, sent the White House a memo in mid august 1962
saying missiles were a probable cargo. U2 flight on 29 Aug 1962 found a serries
of anti aircraft missiles sites on Cuba. Midterm congressional elections in the
US in Nov 1962 Cuba was about to become a Soviet nuclear base. On 8 Sept 1962
the Soviet cargo ship Omsk docked in Havana and unloaded its cargo at night.

14 Oct 1962 – Soviet preparations for Cuba were not
discovered until a U2 flight over western Cuba on 14 Oct, analysed the photos
showed near San Cristobal under construction. The next 13 days were the most
dangerous period of the cold war. A nuclear exchange was so close that both the
Whiter House and Kremlin officials expected bombs to fall 27 Oct black
Saturday. The Soviets prepared six bases for the MRBMs and three for the longer

mid Oct 1962 – Missile deployment in Cuba which the US
learned about in mid Oct 1962 from the mission the U2s overflew the island.

19 – 27 Oct 1962 – On 19 Oct 1962 the CIA reported that four
of the MRBM sites were operational and some missiles appeared ready to fire.
Two IRBM sites were declared to be operational within six to eight weeks.
Kennedy was surrounded by some advisors who wanted a war on 22 Oct president
Kennedy announced the presence of the missiles in a TV address. He announced
the reinforcement of the US bases at Guantanimo bay Cuba. The crisis came on 27
Oct when the Soviet ships had slowed and paused as they approached the US
quarantine line. The CIA reported that the vessel the Grozny suddenly began
steaming directly towards the line. The FBI reported that the Soviet diplomats
in New York had begun destroying sensitive documents. The SAC was dispersed and

22-27 Oct 1962 – Colonel Oleg Penkovsky, the west’s best
placed spy, had been arrested in Moscow 22 Oct, the same day Kennedy announced
the presence of the missiles in Cuba on American TV, clearly Penkovsy had given
the Americans information on the weakness of the Soviet nuclear arsenal on 27
Oct the US learned that one of the U2s had been shot
down over Cuba. It was being flown by Major Rudolph Anderson who had piloted
the U2 which brought back the first evidence of the missile installations, 13
days earlier. Kennedy ordered flight cover for the U2 flights in retaliation
strike against the SAM anti aircraft sites in Cuba was prepared. More than
1,000 protesters were gathered outside the White House some declaring “peace”
and some war. The Soviet garrison on Cuba compromised 42,000 men equipped with

27 Oct 1962 – Cuban missile crisis. The loss of an American

August 1963 – Oswald was arrested in New Orleans while
distributing pro Castro pamphlets. On a New Orleans radio program he extolled
Cuba and defended Castro
7 Sept 1963 – Deputy director of plans at the CIA at the
time was Richard Helms. Castro knew of assassination attempts on his life all
the time. A few months before JFK was assassinated Castro made a speech in
which he referred to this.
Nov 1963 – JFK assassinated in Dallas.
1964 – A revolutionary trained in Cuba, John Okello,
overthrew the pro western government in Zanzibar. In 1964 and proclaimed the
peoples republic of Zanzibar which was promptly recognised by Cuba and the
Soviet union.
1966-75 – MATEO Cuban asset, his real name was Juan Acosta,
a fishing boat captain. Another CIA asset was Ignacio Rodriguez Mena
Castrillon. DGI controlled CIA assets. In 1975 he misled the CIA about Cuban
arms and troop movements into Angola. JULIO by the CIA and code ISIDRO by the

Jan 1966 – At the Tricontinental conference held in Havana
and attended by revolutionary leaders from around the world.
1968-74 – FBI records show that between 1968 and 1974 WUO
leader Mark Rudd and other members of WUO visited Cuba at the expense of Fidel
Castro. The Soviet Union, China, Algeria and other Communist countries. Rudd
left Cuba in 1968 and went to Chicago for anti-war protests. (FBI 100 years.

1970 – A mini manual for revolutionaries was published in
the official LASO publication Tricontinental written by Brazilian urban
terrorist leader Carlos Marighella. The mini manual gave precise instructions
on terror tactics kidnappings etc. The short book was translated into various
languages and distributed worldwide by Cuba.
Sept – Nov 1970 – Aerial photos of Cienfuegos Cuba seaport.
The Soviets were back in Cuba and constructing their own naval base there.
Later photos showed communications towers anti aircraft sites and military
barracks under construction. When a Soviet UGRA class submarine tender arrived
at Cienfuegos complete with barges
equipment for radioactive waste. The Soviets were installing a nuclear naval
base in Cuba. A serious breach of the 1962 agreement in which the Soviets
agreed not to place nuclear missiles in Cuba. Kissinger saw Soviet ambassador
Anatoly Dobrynin at a meeting to halt the construction of the sub base. In Nov

1973-75 – Cuba provided military support and personel to
Syria during the Yom Kippur war.
1974 – Yasser Arafat visited Cuba.
1974 – The National liberation directorate DLN was
reorganised into the American department DA under the communist party of Cuba
central committee. The DA centralised control over Cuban activities for
national liberation movements. The DA was responsible for planning and
coordinating Cubas secret guerrilla and terrorist training camps. Networks for
the covert movement of personal and material from Cuba. And a propaganda
apparatus. DA agents also operated in Europe and other regions. Castro ally
Manual Pieiro Barbaroja was placed in charge.
1976-82 – The CIA estimated there were 300 Palestinians
training in Cuban camps.
1976-82 – Illich Ramirez Sanchez Cantos, the jackal,
responsible for terrorist acts in Europe, trained in Cuba. He attended the 1966
tricontinental conference in Havana and later trained in urban guerrilla
tactics automatic weapons explosives and sabotage in Cuba.
6 Oct 1976 – Cubana airlines explosion killed 73 people.
1977 – The US interests section in Havana opened in 1977, a
Cuban equivalent was opened at the same time in Washington DC. Many of the more
than 100 American diplomats assigned to the section were CIA agents.

1978 – Abu Iyad, a close aide to Yasser Arafat, said in 1978
that hundreds of Palestinians had been sent to Cuban terrorist camps.

1979 – Additional military and political support provided to
Palestinians, Arafat attended the 6th non aligned conference in
Havana 1979. During the visit Arafat supported agreements for military
cooperation and arms supply.
Aug 1979 – Norberto Fuenten. Mafia in Cuba. Cuba

1980s – Cuban trained Guatemalans, Cesar Montes and Luis
Turcois. Lima led a violent terrorist guerrilla campaign against the government
in Guatemala. Montes organised the Ejercito Guerrillero de los Pobres, EGP, in
Guatemala. In the 1980s he joined the FMLN in El Salvador and participated in
the civil war in that country.
1980s – The Soviet Union was giving $4 billion a year
through Cuba, most was used for training guerrilla groups. The military base at
Guanaho, northern coast of Cuba was a communist training camp. Trainees arrived
from Nicaragua, El Salvador, Colombia, the Middle East, Angola etc .Moscow and

1981-85 – Soviet bloc technicians began to arrive in Cuba
and immediately started a build new and bigger antennas to carry out the threat
The Reagan administration proposed legislation supporting radio Marti in 1981
and in 1983 it passed Congress. Castro threatened that if the US began radio
Marti broadcasts he would turn Cuban transmitters on full power and block out
radio in the southern US. Cuban radios did jam a good part of the nightime
radio in the southern US. May 1985 went on air radio Marti.
1983-90 – After the negotiations leading to the
establishment of the Palestinian national authority, Cuban Palestinian military
cooperation was enhanced, including the area of counter intel and intel.
1983 – Grenada located near the coast of Venezuela. The
Soviets and Cubans were pouring large amounts of money and weapons into the
island. Grenada had received more than $33 million in aid from Cuba and
stockpiled enough Soviet arms to equip an army of 10,000. A 600 man
construction force from Cubas was building an airfield able to handle Soviet
long range TU 95 Bear bombers and reconnaissance aircraft. These planes
frequently made flights from Olenogorsk in the Soviet union along the east

July 1987 – DGI Cuban intel agency MATEO was the code name
for one of the CIAs top assets in Cuba MATEO actually worked for the DGI. A
Cuban DGI agent named Antonio Rodriguez defected to the CIA. He said that all
Cuban assets the CIA recruited during the last 26 years were in fact DGI
plants. Another DGI agent defected Florentino Aspillaga Lombard DGI chief of
station in Prague For 26 years a total of 38 Cuban assets were working for the
DGI which allowed Cubans to identify at least 179 CIA agents 24 of them under
diplomatic cover in the US interests section in Havana, fled the country when
