1940s 50s – Lucky Luciano heroin with Lebanese exporter of
Morphine Sami El Khoury in Beirut. Raw opium from Turkey into Lebanon, exported
to labs in Sicily and Marseilles France. From Europe heroin was shipped to New
York or smuggled through Canada and Cuba. Lebanese heroin syndicate, Meyer

1943 – National pact, as the French withdrew, after 23 years
of colonial rule, they left behind a political system dominated by he Maronite
Christians.

1948 – Tens of thousands of Palestinians fleeing Haifa and
villages in Galilee in 1948 made their way across the border into southern
Lebanon.
1952 – By 1952 Palestinians in southern Lebanon numbered at
least 100,000 mainly Muslims, they were refused integration into the Lebanese
political or economic system.
1958 – US intervention in Lebanon began in 1958 when
President Eisenhower sent a military force to Forestall Nasser, backed by the
Soviet Union, to overthrow the government of Lebanese president Camille
Chamoun. 17,000 US troops and marines, and after a few months the troops we
withdrawn.
1958 – The crisis in 1958 when American marines landed in
Lebanon, brought a new load of weapons which many Lebanese later acquired.

1962 – Imad Fayez Mugniyah, Hezbollah Iranian military
guards. Born in 1962 in Lebanon aka ibjj.
7 Dec 1962 – Imad Fayiz Mughnyeh head of intel and ops for
Hezbollah, born in Tayr Dibba Lebanon, some say 12 July 1962.
Jan 1963 –KGB spy Kim Philby was told he was to be interrogated in Beirut. (Too

23 Jan 1963 – Kim Philby in Lebanon, an M16 SIS officer who
had left the British in 1951 government under suspicion of working for the KGB.
He had been living in Lebanon as a foreign correspondent, he defected to Russia
on 23 Jan 1963.
1967 – War brought a new influx of Palestinian refugees. A
guerrilla campaign was launched against Israel from Lebanon and Jordan.

1968-75 – Closer connections with Fatah PLO and other
Palestinian groups was reinforced, including training of Latin American
guerrillas in Lebanon. Cuba’s military support involved courts, intel and
training.
1970 – Jordan expelled the PLO. They settled in southern
Lebanon and began to operate out of those areas, using terror tactics to gather
worldwide support for their cause. Several thousand PLO fighters settled in

9 Jan 1970 – A TWA airliner was hijacked to Paris France,
one hijacker was freed.
28-29 March 1970 – The PFLP fired 7 rockets at the US
embassy, the JFK library and 2 businesses in Beirut.
1971 – Jordan’s King Hussein during 1970 and 1971 halted
guerrilla actions from Jordan and he drove Palestinian guerrillas out of
Jordan. Most went to Lebanon. The weak Lebanese government and army could not
suppress the Palestinians who had strong Arab backing (Compassionate peace.

4 Oct 1971 – Attempted hijacking of a Jordanian plane was
foiled. Two Palestinians were arrested.
1972 – Ties between the PLO and Iran included a secret 1972
agreement between Arafat and Khomeini that provided for training of Iranian
fighters al Fatah terrorist camps in Lebanon.
29 Oct 1972 – A Lufthansa airliner on a flight from Beirut
to Ankara was hijacked to Zagreb. It was released after 3 of the 15 Sept 1972
Munich Olympic terrorists were freed by Germany. The terrorists held a news
conference. Israel vowed to get them.
Early 1973 – Smuggling suitcases from Beirut to Geneva
through Middle East airlines. Hashish from Beirut, a boatload of hashish on a

10 April 1973 – Operation Spring Of Youth, the unit was lead
by Ehud Barak, it landed with inflatable boats in Beirut killing Kamal Nasser,
Mahmoud Yussuf Najjer and Kemal Adwan in their Beirut apartments.
27 April 1973 – 3 people were arrested in Beirut for
carrying explosives bound for Nice France.
17 Dec 1973 – The Lebanese government refused to let the
hijacked Lufthansa airliner from Italy land, so it landed in Athens Greece.
Mid 1970s – By the mid 1970s the Palestinian population in
Lebanon was about 200,000 or 8% of Lebanon’s population. A state within a

1975 – By early 1975 civil war erupted between Christians

Feb 1975 – Just before the war had broken out, Beirut was at
the height of its prosperity, enriched
with oil money from Arab neighbours .The skyscraper hotels were busy
with tourists and business. Beirut airport was congested with planes from round

29 June 1975 – The US attaché was kidnapped, then released,
when an anonymous donor met demands for food for a Beirut neighbourhood.
Sept 1975 – Six months after the beginning of the war, in
Sept 1975, a boat was seen at Aquamarina with a Turkish speaking crew.

trading agency Texim. The Bulgarians knew their Soviet arms were supporting the

4 Oct 1975 – Beirut airport machine gun attack. Three people
were killed and 14 wounded.
1976 – Syrian involvement in the Lebanese civil war was in
battle with the PLO and Lebanese Muslim leftist alliance. (Compassionate peace.

18 April 1983 – A US site in Beirut was bombed, killing 63
people including 17 Americans. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack.

28 May 1985 – David Jacobsen. Dir Hosp kidnapped Hezbollah.
June 1985 – Hezbollah hijacked TWA flight 847. They murdered
US navy diver Robert Stethem.
6 Nov 1986 – Janes Clarity. Hard up Lebanon put the squeeze
on smugglers. New York Times.
2001 – 30,000 Syrian troops continued to occupy Lebanon and
the newly formed revolutionary Hezbollah controlled southern Lebanon.
11 Sept 2001 – CNN facts hijackers 8 Sept 2014. United
Airlines flight 93 from Newark New Jersey to San Fransisco. Crashed in a field
in Shaksville Pennsylvania, pilot hijacker Ziad Jarrah pilot from Lebanon.
2010 – In UAE Dubai was an Afghani named Mohammed Durrani.
He was the grandson of the brother of the former king of Afghanistan. Educated
in Delhi India. He worked for the Hong Kong police for 11 years. He supplied
Pakistani hashish to Europe. Sam Hiraoui was his Lebanese partner. Hashish into
Europe in the personal effects of Pakistani diplomats, embassies and consular

8 Jan 2015 – UN, winter snow and Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
Haaretz. Three Syrians died crossing into Lebanon as snow piled up, worst yet
to come.
18 Jan 2015 – The Syrian refugees in Lebanon. BBC UK. A
million refugees from Syria are living in Lebanon in camps and freezing to
